Two more teams start fundraising for Leeds Mencap

Corporate teams reach fantastic heights with their fundraising ideas for Leeds Mencap this year!

The Leeds Mencap Apprentice challenge is back for a second year and two more teams have signed up - NHS Leadership Academy and Space Property. The competition which sees teams from companies across Leeds take an initial loan of £50 from Leeds Mencap and using their business acumen and knowledge are tasked to turn it into the highest amount possible over a 6 week period to be crowned the winner.

The team at NHS Leadership Academy are planning a show stopping baking league, boy’s vs girls’ car washing competition, themed dress down days, movie nights, organising a 5K fun run and climbing high with an event at Leeds Climbing Wall - just incredible! Byron Currie, Head of HR & OD at NHS Leadership Academy www.leadershipacademy.nhs.uk said this about taking part;

“At the NHS Leadership Academy, it’s not just about facilitating people with opportunities to maximise their leadership potential, but also about creating the right atmosphere for staff and promoting a caring culture. The Apprentice challenge is a fantastic opportunity for us to join hands with Leeds Mencap and support the local community at a grassroots level. I am very pleased that this fundraising event encourages staff volunteering and overall promotes a culture that benefits the society.”

Space Property have entered a team and have the distinct advantage of being right in the city centre and could be the ones who are crowned the winners as they take on the challenge in true Alan Sugar style and use their loan make and sell hand crafted goods, great idea with Mother’s Day and Easter falling within the fundraising period!

James Fairbank, Digital Marketing Officer at Space Property said; “We’re delighted to be getting involved with the Leeds Mencap Apprentice challenge. We’ve already earmarked events we’ll be running during the six weeks, and with a really creative and enthusiastic team, am sure that we’ll do well. We’re also privileged to be doing this for such as worthy cause and hope we can significantly make a difference with the money that we raise.”

The Leeds Mencap Apprentice challenge, in partnership with AQL, hopes to bring some incredible opportunities and results that will highlight the excellent work of the organisations involved. It provides teams with the opportunity to bond in the work place, build morale and enthusiasm for their work as well as the potential to build new partnerships across Leeds. The challenge inspires businesses to go the extra mile, engaging with their staff, colleagues and the public in a positive and exciting way. It ignites a bit of friendly rivalry and allows businesses to showcase their skills, and above all else…the teams can count on the fact that they will be doing something amazing for local people with learning disabilities.

The Leeds Mencap Apprentice teams will be fundraising between the 2nd March and the 10th April and are invited to a celebration round-up event on the 30th April at Salem Chapel, AQL, Leeds.
