Veterinary Animal Health Company Moves To Stoneleigh Park

A veterinary animal health company is marking its move to an agricultural hub in Warwickshire by launching a breakthrough vaccine for pigs in the UK.

Hysolv Animal Health UK has established a new office at Stoneleigh Park, which is being transformed into a centre for agricultural excellence, to coincide with becoming sole distributor for the new and unique pig vaccine in the UK and Ireland.

The vaccine, called Ecoporc Shiga and manufactured in Germany, is designed to protect weaning piglets from a potentially lethal strain of E. coli which is known to be present in around a third of pig farms.

It targets a particular toxin, known as shiga toxin, and boosts immunity against Oedema disease. Field studies conducted in Europe have shown a proven reduction of losses and increase of high quality piglets among vaccinated litters.

Geoff Hooper, director of Hysolv Animal Health UK, said that within days of being granted a license to exclusively distribute the vaccine in the UK and Ireland in January, the first 1,200 doses had already been dispatched to a pig vet in Yorkshire for use on a pig unit.

He said: “There is nothing else like this vaccine on the market and its potential could be huge both in terms of eliminating the effects of this harmful strain of E. coli among piglets and reducing the use of medications including antibiotics to attempt to control the disease.”

The vaccine is a new venture for the company, which until now has specialised in hygiene and biosecurity products to protect farm animals against disease, and has prompted its change of name from Hysolv UK to Hysolv Animal Health UK.

The company, also based in Wales, has now moved its Leicestershire office to Stoneleigh Park, a significant investment reflecting the importance that it places on expanding further into veterinary vaccines.

Geoff added: “We see this vaccine as a real opportunity to build the business over the next ten years and have moved to Stoneleigh Park so that we are in a prime central location for distribution, and because of its reputation as an agricultural centre.”

The company was established by Geoff and Richard Brealey in 2007, who both have extensive experience within the pharmaceutical, veterinary and farming industry.

The main strand of the business has been sole distribution of a powerful veterinary disinfectant range, which includes Interkokask and Interkokask Concentrate, for the UK and Ireland poultry and pig industries.

It also invented Hysolv FootCheck, a unique industry-recognised footbath that acts as the first line of biosecurity defence on some 4,000 farms across the UK to stop the spread of disease and is soon to start being exported overseas.

Colin Hooper, estates director at Stoneleigh Park, said: “Stoneleigh Park is already home to a number of high-profile organisations within agriculture and so is a very good fit for Hysolv Animal Health UK.

“The company’s presence here and its focus on providing innovative products within farming support LaSalle Investment Management’s on-going transformation of the estate into a science park dedicated to rural and agricultural innovation.”
