Portasilo is manufacturing 20 steel storage silos for concrete batching plants being built by Tamwo

York engineering company lands major South Coast contract

The York-based engineering company Portasilo has been awarded a contract worth £800k to supply storage silos for concrete batching plants on major construction project.

Portasilo, which designs and manufactures bulk material handling systems, will now supply 20 storage silos for four concrete batching plants that are currently under construction by D&C Engineers from Tamworth.

D&C Engineers’ commitment to employ the services of Portaliso was influenced by the Yorkshire company’s 60 year experience in designing and manufacturing large storage vessels, as well as the size of its purpose-built manufacturing facility in York.

Geoff Chatterley, D&C Engineers’ managing director and the manager of the project, needed a manufacturer to help this project keep on schedule, all while producing the quality and documentation that the nuclear industry demands.

Chatterley said: “We are pleased to say that Portasilo has successfully fulfilled this role for us.”

D&C Engineers, which is operating on nuclear installation on the south coast of the UK,

have contracted Portasilo to design and build eight 250-tonne capacity and 12 100-tonne capacity steel storage silos for delivery in single pieces.

The final delivery scheduled for July 2015.

The South Yorkshire engineering company’s storage silos are associated with four concrete batching plants which provide the concrete required for the construction of the new power plant.

Portasilo managing director Neil Gardiner said: “A main driver in Portasilo winning this business was our capability to manufacture large quantities of silos in a relatively short period of time. We are proud to be working on what is being described as one of this country’s largest construction projects, and looking forward to seeing the batching plants in action later this year.”
