The revamped Millennium Gallery café in Sheffield

Sheffield’s Millennium Gallery café undergoes refurbishment

Sheffield-based Modern Design Store Nest.co.uk joined forces with local interior designer Rebecca Davis to completely refurbish one of the most popualr café’s in the Millennium Gallery.

Located in the center of Sheffield, the art gallery and museum, which opened back in April 2001, is considered the city’s premier destination for art, craft and design.

Plans to totally revamp of the café initially begin earlier this year when Museums Sheffield and the trust’s catering franchisee Baxter Storey contacted Nest.co.uk and its new business development manager Tom Crookes.

The main aims for the redevelopment was to create larger seating areas for couples, big groups and to attract professionals to use the space for business meetings.

Nest.co.uk, which has a showroom located near Parkway, Sheffield, collaborated with interior designer Rebecca Davies to help achieve the desired look.

Tom Crookes, the new business development manager of Nest.co.uk, who also managed the project, said: “The Millennium Gallery Café is a great space, it’s light and airy, and ideally situated.

“The space however had been well-used and was in need of a new lease of life. We feel that along with the revised seating plan and the furniture and lighting package, The Millennium Gallery Café now offers a lovely space in which to relax, meet friends for a coffee and some food or to hold business meetings. Another great venue for Sheffield.”

Rebecca, a Sheffield-born interior designer and project manager, who specialises in new and refurbished interiors, added : “Nest.co.uk approached me with the idea to create a sophisticated, nuanced and high quality café that was better matched to the rest of the Millennium Gallery’s offer. Museums Sheffield and Baxter Storey want the café to provide a welcoming, creative hub and that acts as the engine to the museum, so we needed to give customers variety and offer them something of creative interest.

“Working in collaboration with Nest.co.uk and a number of local Sheffield Companies, I feel we have really achieved this.”

Kim Streets, chief executive at Museums Sheffield, commented: “We’re delighted with Rebecca and Nest.co.uk’s vision for the Gallery Café. The Millennium Gallery is a real showcase for design and it’s wonderful to see that reflected in the Gallery Café’s new look. Our ambition was to create an inviting, contemporary social space for our visitors to enjoy and I think the new interiors have definitely succeeded in that.”
