Digital marketing entrepreneur started with just £3k
One of Kent’s youngest entrepreneurs, Becky Campbell, has revealed that she started her digital marketing agency with just a £3k investment. At the age of 24, Becky founded Reflect Digital by herself, outsourcing essential work to freelancers, and building a solid reputation through word of mouth. The business now employs 20 staff, has moved offices twice through continued expansion, and turns over £500,000.
At last week’s Kent Women in Business awards, Becky Campbell scooped the runner-up prize; no mean feat for a businesswoman who started her business from a room in her flat just four years ago – not to mention one with some twenty years less experience than some of her fellow nominees.
“It’s been an incredible four years; it took 11 months until I was able to hire my first team member, who worked with me out of my flat. Seven months later, there were six of us – and, to be honest, it was starting to get a bit cramped – so it was time to get an office!”
They didn’t stay there long - 21 months later they had run out of space again and moved to a larger office in Maidstone, Kent, where they remain today, providing integrated digital marketing solutions to companies from various sectors, with Becky’s first ever recruit, Wayne, now heading up the design team.
“It’s a hugely exciting company to work for, if I may say so myself,” jokes Becky. “The beauty of our proposition is that it is entirely transferable, meaning that we service clients from all sectors; from football clubs to law firms. No day is ever the same!”
Becky has big expansion plans over the next year, through the development ofâ¯further web basedâ¯software and by continuing to build her team of experts. Keen to stay at the leading edge of their market, Reflect Digital has already launched its own Content Management System, making them – and their ambitious Managing Director – the ones to watch in 2015.
