Mediaworks’ Head of PPC in Google Award Shortlist

MEDIAWORKS’ Head of Paid Search (PPC), Hannah Mattinson, has been named as one of Googles Top Female Marketers in Search.

Google, in association with The Drum, has launched a campaign to find the most innovative and successful women working in the search marketing sector.

Googles inaugural award ceremony sets out to highlight women who have made a significant impact on the Search Industry. Hannah joined Mediaworks in 2012 directly after graduating from Northumbria University with a first class honours in Marketing Management, she still frequently visits the university to pass on her knowledge and experience as a guest lecturer. Brett Jacobson, Managing Director, of Mediaworks quickly recognised Hannah’s outstanding ability and potential, providing her the opportunity to move up through the ranks, eventually reaching her current role as Head of Paid Search.

Mediaworks’ have already received recognition within the industry in 2015, outshining high calibre competition to be voted “Best PPC Campaign” at The Northern Digital Awards held in January. Mediaworks are also hoping for more good news to come later this spring with nominations in both the European Search Awards, and prolific North Awards.

The women in search campaign was launched by Google in association with The Drum the day after International Women’s day and the ceremony will be held in June to recognise the most innovative and successful women working in the search marketing sector.

The overall aim of the initiative is to address the gender gap in the search industry. According to a recent search industry survey, in 2013 more than 70 per cent of the search industry was male, a reduction of only 8 per cent on 2010.

Brett Jacobson, Managing Director, of Mediaworks “Whilst the statistics show gender based inequalities in the search industry I’m proud to say that Mediaworks offer an environment where talented staff can thrive regardless of gender. Hannah is just one of several high profile female appointments in the business with several female heads of department. I speak on behalf of the whole business when I say how proud but not surprised we are to see Hannah leading the way for young female talent in the industry and as the only nominee from the North East we hope her nomination will draw attention to the great things happening in the region”

Speaking about her nomination Hannah said “In order for the digital marketing industry to function as a whole, a blend of creative, analytical and technical skills are required.

While I studied my Marketing Management degree, the number of women on my course actually outweighed the men, the same trend continued when I started at Mediaworks; with around half of my colleagues being women.

As an equal opportunities employer, Mediaworks have supported my personal development and I am thankful for the opportunity to step up into the Head of PPC role. Working in an environment where men and women are both present around the boardroom table makes all the difference to my day job, and is something I believe all companies should work towards.
