HIBL giving young recruits chance to shine

Henderson Insurance Brokers (HIBL) is continuing to invest in the region’s young people by recruiting a further apprentice at a time of steady expansion for the business.

Former Hessle High School pupil Ellie Ball, 17, who is working as a receptionist and trainee broker, joins two other recently appointed apprentices at the firm’s Hessle office, which is one of 12 nationally.

“I’ve always wanted to work in business and the company is offering me a great career path,” said Ms Ball, who is studying for a business administration level 2 NVQ.

HIBL, which specialises in services for businesses, is the UK’s fifth largest independent insurance broker. It opened its Hessle office in 2004 and is now placing more than £10m of premiums annually.

According to its director Andy Wakefield, the firm is very keen to support the development of apprenticeship schemes.

“We are continuing to win new business and are on a strong growth curve,” he said. “As in any other business, it is crucial that we employ the right people and we are pleased to be in a position to give young apprentices an opportunity to make their way in life.

“They join an experienced team here and get every chance to make a significant contribution.”

The apprentices are appointed through a coordinated employer-led scheme developed in conjunction with the Learning Skills Partnership, who recruit, and help train apprentices for the group.

HIBL is an official partner of World Trade Centre Hull & Humber and it is the only insurance broker in the region that has direct access to the Lloyds of London specialist insurance market.
