Barnsley steelwork company secures Next warehouse contract
Barnsley steelwork contractor firm Billington Holdings announced today that its structural steel division, Billington Structures Limited, has been awarded a contract with contractor Bowmer & Kirkland Group.
As stated in the contract’s terms, Billington will work on the construction of an approximate 1 million sq ft Next distribution warehouse in Doncaster.
The new development, which will include a 4 storey office structure and link bridge, is currently underway and completion is expected in August 2015.
Billington is supplying 5,000 tonnes of structural steel for the build, including portal frames and stability bracing designed to split the warehouse into five separate compartments; enabling the building to remain operational in the event of a fire in one of the compartments.
The internal mezzanine floors will be rendered by stability bracing so they can accomodate a complex system of tracks for an automated handling system.
Mark Smith, CEO of Billington, said: “I am delighted that Billington has been awarded this contract with such a well-known and leading retailer.
“The construction of a distribution warehouse on such a large scale involves a great deal of complex planning. The fact that Bowmer & Kirkland has once again chosen Billington Structures to provide the structural steelwork for one of their most significant and prestigious projects, and indeed clients in Next, is testament to Billington’s quality, reliability and performance.”
