Gosforth headquartered whisky distillery secures premium retail listings

The Lakes Distillery which is headquartered in Gosforth, England’s newest and largest whisky distillery, has secured listings for its spirits in three premium retailers –Harvey Nichols, Fortnum & Mason and Majestic Wines.

Luxury department store Harvey Nichols became the first national retailer of The ONE in July 2014 and has now led the way in becoming the first national retailer of the Distillery’s The ONE and The Lakes Gin.

Ahead of Valentine’s Day, Harvey Nichols invited The Lakes Distillery to host a gin and whisky tasting event at its Manchester store where lucky visitors were able to sample the spirits.

Harvey Nichols will stock 70cl bottles of both spirits, whilst Fortnum & Mason announced The Lakes Gin as its guest spirit of the month for March and April (to April 10).

The Lakes Gin, created with Cumbrian botanicals including Cumbrian Juniper, heather and meadowsweet, will be stocked in Fortnum & Mason’s St Pancras and Piccadilly stores, and online.

The Lakes Distillery’s The ONE, the first ever blend of British whiskies, has been announced as part of Majestic’s new craft spirit range.

The retailer, which has more than 200 stores in the UK, listed The ONE 70cl bottles over the Christmas period with many stores naming the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) silver legend whisky as their number one selling blend.

Paul Currie, founder and managing director of The Lakes Distillery, said: “We have invested £6m into our distillery to ensure we produce the highest quality spirits in our handmade copper stills.

“It is a testament to the quality of our spirits that we have attracted interest from such well-respected retailers as Majestic Wines, Harvey Nichols and Fortnum & Mason, a reputation we intend to maintain.”

Chris Hardy, spirits buyers from Majestic, said: “The ONE has been a fantastic addition to our new craft spirit range. Our customers love to buy British and are highly impressed by the taste - they’re often surprised it’s a blend.

“The customer service has been excellent and The Lakes Distillery has invited our store managers to visit the distillery to further understand its culture.”

The Lakes Distillery opened its doors to the public in December 2014, shortly after it started production of The Lakes Single Malt, The Lakes Gin and The Lakes Vodka.
