Work commences on £3m Rothwell new homes development

Work has begun on a £3m new homes development located close to Rothwell town centre.

The new project will transform a former school into 14 individual homes that are all sympathetically designed to maximise the Grade II listed building’s original features.

Advent Developments, a Leeds-based property company, is developing the former Rothwell Primary and Nursery School on Carlton Lane, and RJ Cadman Construction has been appointed to carry out the conversion work.

Offering a range of two to five bedroom homes, the site, known as Carlton Green, is being designed by Leeds architecture practice West and Machell with Richard Boothroyd & Associates providing construction consultancy services.

The new homes are expected to be put up for sale later this year, with prices starting from £195,000 and work is due to complete by the end of the year.

Earlier this week the development team were joined on the site by councillors Stewart Golton, Karen Bruce and David Nagle as work officially started.

Tim Reeve of Advent Developments said: “From the positive feedback that we’re already receiving from the local community it’s immediately obvious how popular this building is and how many people attended the school and have fond memories of their time there.

“We’re delighted to be safeguarding the future of the building and bringing it back to life with this exceptional new homes development. Our entire development team brings a huge wealth of experience to the scheme, which will ensure that Carlton Green’s homes really stand out from the crowd whilst also becoming an integral part of the established local community.

“Every home will be different to the next and the whole scheme will enhance the original buildings to create well-designed, spacious, character filled homes that offer an alternative for homebuyers who want contemporary style within a superb historic local landmark, something which is rarely available in today’s market.”

Councillor Karen Bruce added: “The original school opened in 1879 and thousands of local children were educated there. Nobody likes to see a building standing empty, so it’s great that work is underway on this development, especially because it will deliver a great selection of much needed new homes close to Rothwell town centre.”

Advent Developments, which specialises in converting heritage sites into residential schemes, is also due to start work on an £8 million new homes development, known as Greenhill Fold, that will see a former school in Upper Wortley transformed into a village development consisting of 49 high quality homes.
