Britain gets walking with pedometers from Walk2Walk Holidays

Walk2Walk Holidays have encouraged Britain to get fit and get on their feet by giving away free pedometers this spring.

The giveaway, held in partnership with Country Walking magazine, had a massive response with over 1,500 people signing up for a pedometer in just a week.

A further 1,000 pedometers were sent out by Walk2Walk Holidays to people who signed up to take part in the #Walk1000Miles campaign – a challenge of walking 1000 miles in 2015.

Members of the public requested the walking devices to help start their walking journeys. Pedometers allow walkers to track how many steps are taken per day, as well as how many calories have been burned. This makes it easier to set goals and stick to them. The handy tools have been shown to increase physical activity to around an extra mile of walking per day, according to a study by Stanford Medicine.

Steven Rittey from Walk2Walk Holidays said: “It is brilliant that so many people signed up for a pedometer. Here at Walk2Walk we know how walking can be beneficial for all sorts of reasons, especially for both mental and physical health. I hope that the pedometers inspire more people to take up the challenge of walking and see the positives for themselves.“

The pedometers are now being sent out through the post, in time for National Walking Month which starts in May.
