Future of West Yorkshire golf club secured after £600k purchase

A West Yorkshire golf club now has another shot after a local businessman purchased it for an asking price of £600k.

Silsden Golf Club, located in the village of High Brunthwaite near Keighley, was on the brink of closure due to mounting debts,but now the club’s 130 members will be able to take to the fairways with comfort as the new golfing season approaches.

As stated in the terms of the deal, the club will have to ease the 18 hole par 67 course, members’ bar, locker room and greenkeeper’s store from the new owner, who plans to redevelop the clubhouse and function suite into a family home.

The Leeds office of Chartered Surveyors Eddisons, completed the of the 58 acre golf course whilst acting on behalf of Fixed Charge Receivers of the Silsden Golf Club.

John Padgett, head of agency at Eddisons said: “We are delighted to have completed this deal and achieved the best possible outcome for the club and its members.”

This transaction has brought an end to several months of anxiety and uncertainty about the club’s future.

Martyn Twigg, the club chairman, added: “It has been an extremely difficult time and has led to many sleepless nights. At long last we can put the problems behind us, the debts have been cleared and we can now concentrate on playing golf.”
