Former NECC Finance Trainee Counts Success

A North East accountant who trained through the North East Chamber of Commerce (NECC) was celebrating being part of a winning team at the recent North East Business Awards.

Nathan Finegan, owner of Carliv Accountancy Limited, rubbed shoulders with the elite of the region’s business world at the Hardwick Hall event, after being part of a successful project team.

Former Stockton sixth form student, Nathan trained through the NECC for his Association of Accountancy Technicians (AAT) qualifications and worked closely with his client Teesside Industrial Solutions Limited (TIS), who scooped the prestigious Newcomer of the Year Award, sponsored by Virgin Money.

Speaking of the his relationship with the winning newcomers, Nathan explained: “I provide Teesside Industrial Solutions Limited, with management accountancy services, financial advice and tax planning that allows them to grow and make decisions at a remarkable rate.

“As a result of this fantastic growth, we took their turnover to over £6million last year and as a result were shortlisted for a North East Business Award (Newcomer of the year).

“It’s an amazing feeling to be part of a team that has grown at such a fantastic rate. I’m very proud to be providing TIS with my services and to have been an integral part of this very successful business.

From a young age Nathan has always been interested in numbers and the complexity of solving problems. Believe it or not, he is adamant that accountancy is far from boring.

“I knew accountancy was the career I wanted to pursue and as soon as I finished college I wanted to get my teeth into AAT.

“The NECC simply couldn’t be faulted. I could talk all day about the great service I received at the Chamber. The training team go way beyond expectations and deliver a service that is second to none, in my experience.

While training with NECC Nathan was fortunate enough to represent Middlesbrough at Worldskills UK - an accounting technician skills competition. This reassured him that the accounting technical knowledge and skills he had learnt enabled him to solve various problems that would be seen in the real world.

“To this day the training I received from NECC is useful because it is applied to every single set of accounts that I put together for clients, and it always will be,” said Nathan.

“Due to having the qualifications and experience behind me, I felt that opening my own accountancy firm, Carliv Accountancy Limited, was the best thing I could do for my career. Without the combination of experience and qualifications, this would likely have not been possible.”

Business continues to go from strength to strength for Nathan. “In April alone I’ve had over 50 clients sign up to the services that my firm offers and I have every intention of building on this and taking on my own AAT apprentices in the future.

“I personally know the benefits that the AAT qualification can bring and would encourage anyone thinking about a career in accountancy to get in touch with NECC.”
