Persimmon donates £1,000 to Weston-super-Mare RNLI

A regional housebuilder has donated £1,000 to The Royal National Lifeboat Institution, Weston-super-Mare (RNLI) to help fund its new lifeboat station.

The cash injection from Persimmon Homes Severn Valley is made from the company’s Community Champions initiative, which is a pot of £24,000 to help fund and support local groups and charities over the next 12 months.

The RNLI was chosen by Persimmon because it provides an essential service to people in the area. The charity had to leave its temporary station at Birnbeck Pier after 132 years due to the deteriorating condition of its historic home.

Peter Elmont, chair of the RNLI fundraisers in Weston, said: “We are delighted that Persimmon Homes has chosen to support our cause to raise money for a new lifeboat station.

“The RNLI is such an important service to residents and visitors to the town and the £1,000 is a real boost towards our final fundraising target. We rely heavily on donations and are so thankful to Persimmon Homes for their kind and much needed contribution.”

Nicola Reed, sales and marketing director for Persimmon Homes Severn Valley, said: “With developments located across Weston, Portishead and Bristol it’s an important focus of ours to support the local community.

“The RNLI is an integral part of that community, working tirelessly around the clock to save lives at sea. Funding is essential for the work they carry out.”

The Persimmon Community Champions initiative is a national programme where charities and groups can apply for funding up to the value of £1,000 to match money they have already raised themselves.

Nicola added: “We’ve made it really simple to apply for funding, and we’re urging groups and charities to apply for next month’s donation by completing an online form at www.persimmonhomes.com/charity.”
