Generator’s Epic Evolution Emerging Festival Returns To Tyneside

The region’s largest celebration of emerging musical talent is back for another year and will welcome 40 artists to stages across some of Newcastle’s finest independent venues next month.

The UK’s leading Music Development Agency, Generator, is delighted to announce its most ambitious line-up to date, which will feature performances from Whitley Bay’s high rising alt-pop outfit Lisbon, Sunderland’s Hyde & Beast and indie pop fivesome Shields on Saturday 23rd May.

With over 500 artist applications to play the seventh Evolution Emerging, the Journal Culture Award nominated organisers have said putting the final line-up together was no small task and they were overwhelmed by the interest this growing festival received.

Evolution Emerging 2015 will showcase the very best up and coming artists from the North East, coupled with special guest headliners and the most exciting new artists from across the UK.

And for the very first time, Generator has partnered with the creative regeneration company Carillion Igloo to stimulate new growth and prosperity in the Ouseburn Valley as both organisations look to expand their cultural and sustainable operations in the area.

Speaking ahead of this year’s eagerly anticipated event, Generator CEO, Jim Mawdsley, said: “Evolution Emerging is the region’s largest event for up and coming music and provides a fantastic platform for new acts to follow in the footsteps of other acts we’ve been proud to help in the past like Lulu James, Beth Jeans Houghton, The Lake Poets and Nadine Shah.

“We’re very lucky as a region to have such a diverse range of music and Evolution Emerging will be taking over some of our fantastic and proudly independent venues again like the Cluny, The Tyne Bar and the Cumberland Arms.

“It’s hard to believe the festival is in its seventh year, and we’re confident we’ll have another sell-out event like we did in 2014. The general public have a huge appetite to discover the next big thing and we urge people to get their tickets early because demand is high. It promises to be a special event.”

40 artists will take over 9 venues in the Ouseburn Valley, Newcastle on Saturday 23rd May including special guest headliners LISBON, HYDE & BEAST and SHIELDS.

MARTHA, COQUIN MIGALE, CHARLIE DANCER, THE GREAT CURVE, ALEXANDER and STREET PARTY IN SOHO are also set to perform alongside many other emerging stars.

Alternatively, music fans can buy tickets at the Cluny in the Ouseburn Valley, Newcastle.

Evolution Emerging is supported by Arts Council England, ERDF and PRS for Music Foundation.

This year the event will also have a special association with The Malings – a sustainable housing project based in the heart of the Ouseburn Valley. Its owners Carillion Igloo have embraced Newcastle’s strong cultural offering and have partnered with Generator for the grand event in May.
