Generator music agency partners with Carillion Igloo to boost Newcastle Ouseburn

National music agency Generator has partnered with creative regeneration company Carillion Igloo to stimulate new growth and prosperity in the Ouseburn Valley.

With interest in the trendy Ouseburn at an all time high, the former cradle of the Industrial Revolution on Tyneside is now home to some of the UK’s most exciting and creative businesses.

With the Malings, an ambitious 76 home eco-friendly sustainable housing scheme spearheaded by Carillion Igloo, having it’s new showroom available for viewing in the heart of the valley and Generator’s music festival Evolution Emerging to take place again there in May, both parties couldn’t think of a better time to strike up a working relationship.

Carillion Igloo will be launching the second phase of The Malings on the 12th June, consisting of 25 more dwellings, with a further 17 completing towards the middle of next year.

This will be followed by housing and workspaces on Lower Steenbergs Yard in 2017 and the transformation of Malmo Quay, next to Mariners Wharf. Both of these developments will see more architecture and the relocation and integration of the popular Cycle Hub into Malmo Quay is further evidence of the long-term commitment towards sustainability.

Generator, which provides support to hundreds of artists, music and creative businesses from its headquarters above The Cluny - one of the city’s premier music venues - has also announced growth plans on announcing the new alliance.

The organisation has said they want Evolution Emerging, a festival for the region’s most promising new acts, to make use of the few open spaces the valley has to offer and build the festival with outdoor stages to complement the existing venues.

Generator CEO, Jim Mawdsley, said: “We want to actively demonstrate that we have an ambition to make Evolution Emerging a trailblazing festival of new music in the North of England.

“Both partners have said they are dedicated to building the Ouseburn’s future profile and celebrating its unique features by unveiling and promoting new exciting projects.

“The recent resurgence of building projects, often in neglected areas, produces multiple economic benefits through the reanimation of city corners with thriving, creative business ecosystems. Together we will embrace the strong cultural offering synonymous with the area and will make things happen here.”
