Cash boost for the Chris Lucas Trust
A Wallsend cancer charity is to benefit from a cash boost gifted by one regional builder.
The Chris Lucas Trust has received £1,000 from Persimmon Homes North East to fund new office equipment and stationery that will assist the charity with ongoing cancer research.
The charity was set-up following the death of Christopher Lucas in 2000. Chris, from Hadrian Park, Wallsend, died aged 18 having being diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare form of cancer. The charity now seeks to find a cure for the disease.
The donation comes as part of the housebuilder’s Community Champions scheme, which will see a pot of £24,000 given out to local good causes over the next 12 months throughout the region.
Groups will be chosen every month to receive a match-funding donation with local community groups being encouraged to apply by completing an online form at www.persimmonhomes.com/charity.
Chris’s mum, Lynne, said: “Our aim has always been to find a cure for this terrible disease. We don’t know if that will happen, but we are doing our best to fundraise as much as possible to help towards research and this generous donation from Persimmon will go some way to achieving this.”
John Eynon, deputy managing director for Persimmon Homes North East said the community initiative is an excellent way of supporting people across every city, town and village where the company works.
He said: “We are confident this funding will make a huge difference to The Chris Lucas Trust. The quality of the submissions we received were very high, so choosing the good causes to support was much harder than we expected.
“We now want to hear from more groups and charities as we look to allocate more funding over the next month. All we ask is that the group or charity has already worked hard to raise money themselves, and we will then match this effort with funding of up to £1,000.”
