Home care service launched in East Durham

A charity-run residential home has launched a new domiciliary care service designed to enable people to remain living independently in their own home.

The ‘Langley Home Care’ service, which is being provided by Langley House Residential Care Home in Sunderland Road, Horden, will provide a range of domiciliary care services to people living in Horden, Easington, Blackhall and Peterlee.

These services will include personal care, housekeeping, companionship, medication support and respite care. Staff from Langley House, which is owned by Durham Aged Mineworkers’ Homes Association (DAMHA), will provide the care, which could range from a brief house call each day through to a more comprehensive care package.

Chris Conway, Manager of Langley House, said: “Most people, understandably want to remain independent and stay in their own home as long as possible.

“However, for those with disabilities and older people, even the simplest things such as walking, getting up the stairs and climbing in and out of the bathtub can become difficult.

“Through this new service we will be able to support people in their own homes, whether that is helping them out of bed, getting dressed and making them a meal, or something as simple as popping in for a cup of tea and a chat.

“We have very highly qualified staff working at our care home who will be able to provide the same high standard of care in peoples’ own homes, so we believe we will be able to make a big difference to the lives of many individuals in our community.

“And because we have a residential home in the centre of Horden it also means that if someone’s care needs get to the point where living in their own house is no longer viable, then they have the option to come to Langley House where, by then, they will already know the staff and the ethos of care we have.”

Langley House is operated by Resolve Care Consultancy Ltd on behalf of DAMHA.
