Eco friendly biomass boiler to fuel massive savings for primary school

Northallerton based HCS Mechanical Services has installed an eco-friendly biomass boiler which is expected to save a local primary school over £167k in fuel bills over two decades.

South Otterington Church of England Primary School, which has 105 pupils, commissioned HCS Mechanical Services to replace its dated and expensive oil boiler with an energy efficient, low carbon biomass system.

It is estimated that the new boiler will cut running costs by almost £8k annually – saving almost £2k in fuel and enabling the school to quality for the Government’s Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme payments for the next twenty years.

The primary school will also reduce its carbon emissions by 332 tonnes across the same period.

HCS Mechanical Services Renewables Manager Bob Chicken said: “South Otterington Church of England Primary School awarded us the contact because of our powerful track record in designing and installing systems proven to achieve effective RHI payback rates.

“The new biomass boiler brings a wealth of benefits and is expected to pay for itself in just six and half years – giving the school over 13 years to maximise the benefits of the RHI payments.”

The project took 12 months from planning to installation with heating specialist HCS Mechanical Services managing the entire process from submitting the paperwork for the RHI grants - to selecting the most appropriate boiler and housing it in a purpose built extension.
