RDA staff take on Total Warrior charity challenge

Three members of staff from a leading catering design and installation firm are embarking on a gruelling physical challenge to raise funds for a local charity.

A sporty trio from Restaurant Design Associates (RDA) in South Tyneside – quantity surveyor Stephen Rochester, commercial manager Alex Bradley and operations manager Neil Addyman – will be heading to the Lake District on August 1 to compete in Total Warrior, a 10k assault course which consists of 25-30 punishing obstacles that participants must overcome before reaching the finish line.

Stephen, Alex and Neil are seeking sponsorship in aid of The Chronicle Sunshine Fund, which provides specially adapted equipment, custom built apparatus and special learning aids for North East children with disabilities or special needs, to improve the quality of their lives.

Total Warrior will take place at Shap Abbey near Penrith and is billed as being the ultimate test of strength, stamina, mental determination and teamwork. Ex-military personnel have helped design the course to make it as tough as possible – making full use of the Lake District’s hills, rivers, mud, woodland and rugged terrain.

This will be the fifth year of the event, which sells out months in advance and sees thousands of would-be warriors coming from all over the world to compete.

Alex Bradley said: “At RDA we’re always looking for new ways to get involved with fundraising – from cycling events to the Great North Run. Total Warrior is described as being the pinnacle of obstacle racing, so it looks like it’s going to be our biggest challenge yet and it’ll be interesting to see how we cope!

“We’ve chosen to support the Sunshine Fund again this year because it’s a fantastic local charity and we’ve long admired the services that they carry out for children across the North East. We’re hoping to raise as much money as possible - and every donation will help spur us on to cross the finish line.”

Clare Savory, events manager for the Sunshine Fund, said: “Good luck to the team - this is a fantastic challenge to take on and one I know they will enjoy. A huge thank you to RDA for raising money for the charity. Without companies such as theirs, we would be unable to support so many children with disabilities in the North East.”
