Charity’s Thai-m to shine…

A local charity is set to benefit from a fundraising event to be held by a South Shields Thai restaurant.

Orangegrass, which is based on the town’s Mount Terrace, is throwing the event on June 7 from 6pm-11pm to benefit the charity, which will receive all of the proceeds of the night. It’s sure to be a fun packed occasion for a great cause with a delicious buffet of the food which has seen Orangegrass become a local icon at the centre of attention.

It’s a cause close to Orangegrass owner Titu Akhtar’s heart, with the funds raised going to help the charity, which is heavily reliant on donations. He tells us:

“We’ve worked with the North East Autism Society numerous times over the years and I have seen first-hand how the funds help people in the region, through my daughter, Jasmine.

“We can’t wait for the night, it’s a sell-out every year, and has been so popular we have decided to often repeat it, raising double the money for this fantastic charity.”

Hebburn’s own rising star Annabel Pattinson, signed with Moulin Music Management will lend her voice to the night as she sings live renditions of some classics, as well as some of her own handwritten originals which have seen music moguls like Simple Minds manager Bruce Findlay ‘drawn in’.

With a raffle also featuring, with prizes like free meals, wine, gift vouchers and more, there is really no excuse to get involved and help out a worthy cause. Thai dancers will be there to give a true feel of the Indochina peninsula and turn Tyneside into Thainside for one night only. As the evening wears on a disco will round it off perfectly with a local DJ providing the best music to really finish off the evening on a high.

The North East Autism Society was set up in 1980 and offers personalised services for people with an Autism Spectrum Condition. The Orangegrass charity event coincides with the society’s 35th anniversary, and will see it receive all the proceeds from the night.

Sophie Clarke, events fundraiser for the NEAS said: “We are so grateful to Titu for organising this charity evening on our behalf. The money raised will help fund our Family Development Services, which includes toddler groups, parent’s workshops, family support groups, adult social groups and our trampolining club. These services can only continue through the generosity of organisations and individuals alike”.

Tickets for the night are £20 each or £30 for a pair and can be purchased by contacting Orangegrass via e-mail at admin@orangegrass.biz, by telephone on 0191 455 8 555 or in the restaurant.
