County firm has the power to care

Lynemouth Day Centre has received a major cash boost from one of Northumberland’s largest employers.

The £4,000 donation from Lynemouth Power Ltd has covered the cost of three brand new wheelchairs and much-needed maintenance to the centre’s fleet of mini-buses.

From its base on Albion Terrace, Lynemouth Day Centre provides a range of recreational activities to people from across South East Northumberland as well as essential respite care for families.

Vikki Thompson, business manager at Lynemouth Day Centre, said: “Many of our clients are elderly or have dementia and physical disabilities so they rely on us not just for the services we offer but also to provide transport between home and the day centre. This wonderfully kind donation from Lynemouth Power will help keep our fleet of mini-buses on the road and the new wheelchairs will mean we can safely transport clients from their home to the bus to the centre and back again.”

On an average day, Lynemouth Day Centre will welcome around 20 clients. For some it is an opportunity to stay in touch with friends while others participate in activities such as crafts and carpet bowls. The mini-buses are also used to transport some clients to the day centre’s allotment in Lynemouth.

Vaun Campbell, works director at Lynemouth Power Ltd, said: “The power station and the day centre are both big parts of this community so I’m delighted we’ve been able to support their fantastic work. I know from having visited the day centre how much the clients enjoy their activities and the value their families place on knowing loved ones are safe and being well looked after.”

Lynemouth Power Ltd employs 135 people. In April, the company was awarded the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) order of distinction for its safety performance.
