Disability charity dials in to support from Cheshire Connect

A charity that improves the lives of elderly and disabled people across Runcorn, Widnes and West Cheshire has accessed “invaluable” assistance from a third sector support service.

Chester-based Dial House, which helps elderly and disabled people to live sustained, independent lives, contacted Cheshire Connect looking for advice on how to develop its long-term financial sustainability.

Cheshire Connect, which helps third sector groups access a range of help and support, paired the charity with Sales Leadership Development Ltd in Chester.

Paul Rutherford, chief executive of Sales Leadership Development, has subsequently run a series of workshops with Dial House trustees with the aim of developing a plan for the charity’s future sustainability.

The match is one of a number of partnerships Cheshire Connect has made between successful businesses and charities, voluntary groups and community from across the county.

Dial House aims to improve the economic status of its clients, as well as tackling social isolation and improving their general health and wellbeing. It also works to raise awareness of the needs and aspirations of disabled people, and provide volunteering, training and employment opportunities.

Keith Roper, chief officer of Dial House, said: “Thanks to Cheshire Connect’s matching service, we’ve accessed invaluable support and assistance from Paul and Sales Leadership Development, which we will now use to help develop a plan for a sustainable future for the charity.

“It was extremely beneficial to be challenged on our current practices. Not only has Paul brought his expertise to the table, but he has brought fresh eyes and great clarity of thought.

“We feel that Paul has given us direction and has instilled confidence for us to move forward, and are extremely grateful for his insight and the support facilitated by Cheshire Connect.”

Paul Rutherford said: “I have been delighted to work with the board at Dial House. I knew little about Dial House and it is has been a pleasure to learn more about the great work that they do.

“I work on an international basis, but it is very rewarding to try to make a difference in my community, and would recommend other Cheshire businesses look at ways to work with great causes within their locality.”

Donna Okell, chief executive of Cheshire Connect, said: “We’re delighted that the support Paul provided has been of value to Dial House, and will hopefully contribute towards a prosperous future for the charity.

“The support provided is typical of the targeted matching service we provide. Our goal is to match skills needed by third sector organisations with businesses looking to engage with their local community – which is exactly what has happened between Dial House and Sales Leadership Development.”
