Footwear retailer’s £5,000 boost for children’s charity

Some of the North East’s most vulnerable youngsters are being helped thanks to a £5,000 boost from footwear retailer Charles Clinkard.

The money was raised from the sale of a large quantity of imperfect shoes.

Rachel Clinkard, e commerce director, said: “When we were deciding which charities to support Barnardo’s was an obvious choice.

“Charles Clinkard has been looking after children’s feet in the North East for generations – it made sense to help an organisation that’s supporting youngsters in the region who are experiencing a tough time.”

Janice Heathcote, the charity’s community fundraising volunteering manager for North Yorks and the North East, visited the company’s Middlesbrough store to meet some of those behind the donation, including Toby Hewison, retail operations director.

Janice said: “The charity relies heavily on voluntary donations, we couldn’t survive without them so to receive an amount of this kind is amazing.”

The charity is involved in 70 projects in the North East, supporting more than 23,000 vulnerable children and young people.

They include children who are living in poverty, young carers, children with disabilities and young people who are being sexually exploited.
