Hambleton celebrates its volunteers

The voluntary sector across Hambleton will be celebrating a national event at the start of June (Monday June 1st-Sunday June 7th), showcasing the work that the thousands of volunteers across the area carry out every week.

Volunteers’ Week is an annual, national event to recognise the contribution that volunteers make in their local communities and, this year, Volunteering Hambleton, will be staging a number of special events.

At Stokesley Library, the Volunteer Centre Stokesley has invited local organisations to create displays explaining to local people who they are, what they do and how people can get involved. At the end of Volunteers’ Week, June 5th, a tea party will be held for invited volunteers from the library and Stokesley Community Care Association.

At Northallerton Library, a number of organisations will be taking part in a week-long event to share with local people the services they offer and showcase the opportunities that there are available to anyone looking to volunteer.

And at Easingwold and Thirsk Libraries, people interested in volunteering and any local volunteer organisations can attend pop-up sessions on Thursday 4th June to meet the Volunteering Hambleton team and enjoy tea and cake.

Denise Sisk from Volunteering Hambleton said: “Volunteers’ Week is the biggest celebration of the year for us, recognising the contribution of over 23 million volunteers around the country who support their local communities. During Volunteers’ Week hundreds of events and celebrations will take place across the country to say thank you to volunteers recognising the important contribution they make.

“We’re also using the week to generate interest in volunteering highlighting the benefits and showing the range of opportunities that are available in our area. We hope these will be the first of many events where voluntary organisations and would-be volunteers can meet, share ideas and ultimately work together.”

Volunteering Hambleton offers a range of advice and support services to organisations, from help with the development and promotion of volunteering and opportunities, to delivery of quality training and information designed to develop good practice in all areas of an organisation’s volunteer recruitment, support and management.

Northallerton Volunteer Centre became Volunteering Hambleton earlier this year and expanded its services to cover the whole of Hambleton, working in partnership with the Volunteer Centre in Stokesley.
