Entrepreneurs' Forum in dialogue with Chancellor

Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne has praised the work of the Entrepreneurs’ Forum in a letter to the organisation’s chairman discussing incentives to grow small businesses.

Mr Osborne wrote to Nigel Mills in response to a letter urging the Chancellor to protect support for people wishing to invest in enterprises with growth and job creation potential.

Mr Osborne wrote: “The support that organisations such as the Entrepreneurs’ Forum provide to entrepreneurs is invaluable not only to the growth of entrepreneurial businesses but to the wider economy more generally. The government is committed to making the UK one of the best places to start, finance and grow a business in Europe.”

Nigel Mills said: “It is important that the strengths and needs of the North East are communicated with the Government, so the value of active dialogue and engagement with George Osborne, such as this, cannot be underestimated.

“Mr Osborne outlined the integral role of tax-advantaged venture capital schemes, such as EIS, SEIS and the Venture Capital Trust scheme, in encouraging investment in businesses to help them to grow. Such support is invaluable to growth and job creation, so this is very good news for the region.”

Mr Osborne’s letter continued: “I am pleased to hear that entrepreneurship is continuing to thrive in the North East.”
