Clugston Construction wins three Health and Safety Awards

One of the region’s leading privately owned building companies, Clugston Construction, which is currently involved in the construction of the iconic energy recovery facility in Leeds, has been recognised for its continued dedication to improving Health and Safety in the workplace by winning three prestigious Health and Safety Awards.

The first was awarded at the Chartered Institute of Builders (CIOB), Committed to Construction in Humber and West Yorkshire Awards (CCIHWY) 2015. Clugston Construction was named winner of the ‘Committed to Health and Safety’ category at the event, which celebrates best practice, achievements and innovation by the region’s construction community.

The judges were extremely impressed by the innovative approach taken by Clugston Construction in promoting the importance of health and safety to its workforce. The Company developed a scheme based around a ‘5-A Day’ initiative which focused on five major construction related health and safety issues: noise, dermatitis, musculoskeletal conditions, hand arm vibration and respiratory problems.

The second award, an International Safety Award from the British Safety Council, was awarded with merit in recognition of the Company’s commitment to keeping workers and workplaces healthy and safe.

Clugston Construction was also a winner in the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Occupational Health and Safety Awards 2015. The Order of Distinction, for 17 consecutive Gold Awards, will be presented to Clugston at a ceremony held at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham, on July 14.

David Rawlins, RoSPA’s award manager said, “The RoSPA Awards encourage improvement in occupational health and safety management. Organisations that gain recognition for their health and safety management systems, such as Clugston Construction, contribute to raising standards overall and we congratulate them.”

Mark Atkinson, Clugston’s health and safety manager said, “We are extremely pleased to be presented with these awards and to be recognised for the importance we place on the health and safety of our employees. It is an area we will never compromise on and one where we intend to continue investing time and money to ensure everyone who works for us, or is affected by our work, goes home safe and sound.”
