Delamere regeneration scheme gets green light

A former industrial site located opposite the Delamere station has received planning permission for a regeneration project which will create 180 homes, 30% of which will be affordable housing.

The Crown Estate has received final planning consent following an agreement with Cheshire West and Chester Council regarding local community infrastructure contributions.

The Crown Estate’s involvement in this scheme stems from its investment strategy which centres around four key sectors; housing development within its rural and coastal portfolio, the West End, regional retail and energy and infrastructure.

It actively manages its holdings and last year secured consent for 7,000 homes in five locations.

The scheme, which is designed to blend with the local woodland setting, will reclaim over half of the former industrial site as green space for local community uses, including allotments, woodland walks, wetlands and informal play areas.

Strategic land manager at The Crown Estate Steve Melligan, said: “This is another example of our active approach to asset management, bringing derelict brownfield land back into productive use and contributing to our continued strong performance for our business.

“The plans reclaim half the site for green space and the local community, while delivering vital infrastructure and much needed new homes for the local area.

“We will now start the process of selecting a reputable house-builder to build out the site with funds from any sale being reinvested back into our business in-line with our investment strategy.”
