British Airways’ Leeds Bradford to Heathrow route reaches passenger landmark
After a 30-month relationship with Leeds Bradford Airport, British Airways will see its 300,000th passenger take to the air later this week, on route to London Heathrow.
British Airways’ flight between Leeds Bradford and London, which began in December 2012, is the only air link that connects the West Yorkshire aiport to the capital.
Reaching this passenger milestone figure illustrates the commitment of the region’s customers to using this route.
The British Airways route also provides a boost to the Yorkshire economy, as well as the opportunities it presents in terms of inward investment and job creation.
Furthermore, in addition to offering direct access to the capital, many business and leisure customers are taking advantage of connections to more than 70 onward British Airways European and long haul destinations from the airline’s flagship Terminal 5 home at Heathrow.
Leeds Bradford Airport is also working with chambers of commerce in the Heathrow catchment area to promote flying to Leeds and Yorkshire for a full business day meeting.
To highlight the benefits of flying to Leeds, a city considered the retail and cultural capital of the north as well as the UK’s second centre for banking, a huge campaign is being launched this coming summer.
Simon Lea, British Airways’ airport manager Leeds Bradford, said: “Our customers have played their part in supporting this vital air link which has also opened up the world from Yorkshire with a huge choice of onward European and worldwide destinations and easy connections through our single terminal operation at Heathrow.”
Tony Hallwood, Leeds Bradford Airports’ aviation development director, commented: “This important passenger milestone confirms the significant regional importance of British Airways’ flight link to and from Heathrow Terminal 5. By providing convenient onward short and long haul connections businesses are now increasingly using the British Airways services to connect to the world from the Leeds city region and Yorkshire.’
“We look forward to attracting more businesses in the Thames Valley, Surrey and West London regions to take advantage of the convenience and attractive cost of flying to Leeds Bradford® with British Airways for their meetings. We also expect weekend leisure breaks to Leeds and Yorkshire will also take off this summer.’’
