Emarsys embraces the rise of the technical CMO

Tomás Puig, formerly Head Labs at WP Engine, has been appointed as Emarsys’ Chief Marketing Officer. He brings deep technical knowledge to his new role with the cloud marketing software specialist, having worked in the heart of Silicon Valley’s converging creative, technical and media industries for many years.

Puig is a new breed of CMO, with technical and creative skills varying from coding to filmmaking. By 2017, Gartner predicts the CMO will spend more on IT than the Chief Information Officer*. In Puig, Emarsys has future-proofed its marketing with a technically-gifted leader who believes in marrying artistry and technology to build affinity with customers. He plans to drive marketing success across all digital platforms, and wants to help Emarsys’ clients build true customer loyalty through marketing innovation.

Puig says: ‘It might seem an unorthodox hire, but I want to combine my artistry and technical expertise to take the Emarsys brand to new heights. Brands want and need to be loved and tell stories, and I’m determined to make this happen for both Emarsys and our clients.“

“We need to ensure Emarsys helps brands take customer affinity to the next level, reaching their targets effectively across all marketing channels to build loyalty through marketing innovation. Every human is unique and wants to be treated differently on their chosen platforms. It’s down to us to know exactly who the customer is and deliver above and beyond their expectations.”

Hagai Hartman, CEO and Co-Founder of Emarsys says: “This appointment is key to ensuring Emarsys is recognised as the market leader and innovator it’s become. Our customers, and our customers’ customers are increasingly of the millennial mindset and I want to fill the business with leaders who truly understand this. Tomás has some exciting ideas, and coming from a rich technical background, we’re expecting him to help drive the company forward with his energy and enthusiasm.”

Puig started his career in technology, where he worked on computer security and web development. After transitioning to the agency world he then contributed to award winning work for Fuse TV, IFC, Facebook, Cisco, and Namco campaigns.

As Head of Marketing and Labs for WP Engine in Silicon Valley, Puig was responsible for all marketing inclusive of consumer, enterprise, field, digital and customer nurture marketing to help build the company’s presence to become a world leader in innovation-driven technology. Through the department he drove results which included 25 per cent company growth every quarter, resulting in 85 million visitors to the SaaS platform daily. He also helped build the workforce from 17 employees to more than 170.
