Shopping centre in towering charity challenge

The Alhambra Shopping Centre in Barnsley is set to host a ‘One Great Day’ of fun raising for all the family next month.

The One Great Day fundraising event follows a similar event last year that raised over £3,000 will take place on Saturday 6th June (10am - 3.30pm) with a whole host of fun activities for shoppers!

To launch this year’s charitable efforts, a 15ft (size of a fully grown male Giraffe) coin tower will be unveiled on Saturday 30th May where shoppers can donate a pound to build the biggest coin tower the country has ever seen!

The coin tower will be counted on 14th June and added to the fundraising efforts from the 6th June in aid of Barnsley Hospitals Tiny Hearts campaign and nationally chosen charity Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Activities on the Saturday include:

Free craft activities for young people of the town and special guest appearances from Peppa Pig, SpongeBob Square Pants lookalikes and a Storm Trooper which are all available for photo opportunities throughout the day.

A sponsored virtual cycling event will be taking place outside of Iceland and cyclists will be travelling the equivalent distance between the Alhambra and Great Ormond Street hospital in London (282 km)!

There will also be a football speed challenge with the top prize for adults - an executive experience at a Barnsley FC home game of your choice and for the youngsters - giant chocolate football trophy.

Steph Higham, Alhambra Shopping Centre marketing manager said: “We are all looking forward to the One Great Day events and raising lots of money and awareness of two fantastic charities.

“This year’s fundraising events are bigger and better than ever and will be spread right across the centre - so come on down and help us help Barnsley’s tiny hearts.”

As a separate fund raising event, The Alhambra has organised a ‘One Great Golf Day’ on 10th June at Sand Hill Golf Course, and are looking for budding golfers to enter a team!
