Businesses hit the pitch for second football tournament

Following the success of the region’s first Football in the City match held back in March, the corporate five-a-side tournament is returning to Manchester’s state-of-the-art facility, Soccer in the City, on Friday 26 June.

Sponsored by multi-sector recruitment specialist, Search Consultancy, and computer network infrastructure specialist, CNI Solutions, the second outing of Football in the City will see 12 companies from across the North West compete in the quarterly tournament.

Kicking off at 3pm, businesses are now invited to submit their teams of seven for an afternoon of competitive football, networking and socialising while raising funds for youth leadership charity, RECLAIM, and children’s cancer research charity, Kidscan.

Established in 2002, Kidscan is a children’s cancer research charity which specifically supports research into new and improved treatments for children with cancer. Through its ground-breaking research, the charity aims to create a world where every child diagnosed with cancer will survive and thrive.

Lowri Turner, director of development at Kidscan, commented: “We’re thrilled to be involved in this Manchester-based initiative; receiving no statutory funding, it is events such as this that means we can continue our life-saving work. We depend on the kindness of supporters and people getting involved in events like this to keep looking for that cure for childhood cancer.

“Along with everyone else, we had a really great time at the first event, which is most certainly the best way to fundraise – for everyone to enjoy themselves knowing that they’re making a difference at the same time.”

Debbie Caswell, managing director of Search Consultancy in England, added: “Our sponsorship of Football in the City has seen us set an ambitious target of raising £5,000 this year for these two fantastic local charities.

“The first leg of the tournament was a great success, with businesses across the region coming together for some competitive, corporate fun, so we’re excited to be counting down to the second leg in just a few weeks’ time.”

The cost of entering a team into Football in the City is £350 which includes trophies, food and sports drinks, alongside shirts branded with individual company logos.

Providing a network of caring adults to support young people from deprived communities, RECLAIM empowers youngsters across the North West to create new career and life opportunities. Founded in 2007, the youth leadership charity has a bold aim – to end leadership inequality within a generation and achieve lasting social change.

Joe Amos, youth engagement manager at RECLAIM, concluded: “It was fantastic to see the local business community come together to raise money and support the charity and the vital work we do with young people in Manchester. It also provided a great environment for networking and building relationships.”
