Saving Holywell Greens last local pub…

The Holywell Inn was once a much loved and extremely popular traditional village pub. Unfortunately the pub received little investment resulting in it falling into disrepair and being left with no choice but to close its doors to the community. The pub has now been closed for 3 years.

The local community however, is now fighting back against the closure of this historic, 142 year old establishment. Local residents have set up the ‘Holywell Inn Action Group’ with the aim of buying back the pub. The locals want to create a ‘social interaction centre’, offering free Wi-Fi, food, book clubs, cinema clubs and much more.

Fundraising which began in 2012 has led to the group holding its latest event Inn-Ovation, a three-day acoustic music festival being held at Brooksbank School in Elland, Halifax from July 31st to August 2nd.

With enough room for 300 people each day it is set to be a great, family fun event with lots of music, workshops, food, and a licenced bar. There are some fantastic performers lined up, including The Strawbs, Roger Davies, The Poozies, Gabby Young and many more.

John Walsh, chair of the Holywell Inn Action Group, commented, “The Holywell Inn pub ran for 142 years before it closed and has always been the social centre of our village. The Inn-Ovation festival is another way of making sure that we will still have the facility in another 100 years time. We are really looking forward to the event”.

Tickets are available online at www.wegottickets.com/f/8936 and they are selling extremely quickly. Friday evening tickets are a bargain price of £15 with the Saturday and Sunday tickets being just £40 each. If you buy all three you will receive a £5 drinks voucher to use at the event.
