Encompass Brings Visual Information Management Technology to Scotland’s Smart City
Encompass Corporation, provider of industry-leading visual information management technology to the insolvency and restructuring sector, is to invest over £2.2 million opening a new office in Glasgow’s financial services district creating 21 new jobs. The investment is being supported by Scottish Enterprise through a Regional Selective Assistance grant worth up to £357,000.
This is the first head office operation Encompass has established outside its home market of Australia, and marks the start of a planned period of expansion for the company across the UK and other international markets including the United States. In line with this, Encompass is relocating members of its senior management team to the new Glasgow office.
The move further establishes Glasgow’s draw as a leading technology hub after it won a £24 million Future Cities grant from the UK government’s technology strategy board in 2012 to spend on prototype technology projects and develop its vision to be among the world’s foremost smart cities. A perfect fit for Encompass, whose technology enables professionals to simultaneously access, analyse and visualise multiple sources of information to instantly understand company structures and asset ownership, in order to make better, faster commercial decisions.
Alex Ford, Head of Marketing for Encompass, who will relocate from Sydney to the new Glasgow office to help lead the expansion comments: “We recognise Glasgow as a city focused on achieving its key objective to become a tech hub and smart city. We plan to use the grant to bring in highly-skilled staff from the rich local talent pool and take advantage of the city’s strong culture of innovation and cutting-edge research and development and capitalise on new commercial opportunities.”
International sector head for financial services at Scottish Enterprise, Sharon Hamilton, said: “Encompass’ decision to set up its first UK and international base in Scotland is testament to our strong financial services sector and reputation for world-class research and development and technological innovation. Scotland is already home to a number of world-leading companies servicing financial markets, and our high performing, innovative and productive sector makes it the perfect location for Encompass to base its international operations.
“With strong ambitious growth plans we will continue to work intensively with the company, offering strategic advice through our account management programme, and help it to realise its long-term growth potential in Scotland.”
Welcoming the announcement, Deputy First Minister, John Swinney, said: “Only last week the EY Attractiveness Survey showed that Scotland consistently outperforms all parts of the UK, outside of London, in attracting more foreign direct investment projects.
“Encompass’ decision to choose Scotland as the base for its European operations is fantastic news and with the support from Scottish Enterprise, the company joins Scotland’s flourishing financial and business services industry in an attractive and highly competitive location for international businesses.”
