Manchester Digital opens 2015 Council elections
The independent trade association for the North West’s digital sector, Manchester Digital, has announced nominations for its 2015 Council elections will be open from 11 June. This coincides with the announcement that Tony Foggett will be stepping down as Chair, following three years in the role.
Once elected, the new Council will oversee the work the organisation does, which includes regular lobbying and efforts to tackle the current issues facing the growing digital sector.
Information about the Chair role and guidance on standing for Council will be available on the Manchester Digital website. The nomination process will run from 11-25 June and voting will commence on the 2 July, ahead of the new Council announcement on 16 July.
Council members whose seats will be up for grabs in the re-election are: Mike Ryan, Fusion Futures, Jon Grant, Knocker, Diana Erskine, Reading Room, Chris Marsh, UK Fast, Duncan Hull, University of Manchester.
“MD is a very different organisation now from the one it was when I became Chair and I’m immensely proud of what we’ve achieved in terms of growth of credibility and capability over the last three years. Our membership has nearly quadrupled, now with nearly 500 businesses, equating to 18,000 digital professionals across the North as well as 2000 students.
“What I see in Manchester Digital now, is a well-respected, independent association wholly owned by the digital community and making a real impact on the issues we face through action and influence. The organisation has become a necessity in the widening digital skills gap the industry faces in this region and is extremely well placed to deliver on the opportunities that Devolution promise.
“I invested my time as chair of MD because I believed in what it could achieve if we started to fulfill our potential, I hope the recent progress we have made will encourage others to get involved too.”
Katie Gallagher, managing director at Manchester Digital said: “We are incredibly grateful for everything Tony has helped us achieve over the three years he has been Chair. He will remain on the board for some time to ensure a smooth handover process, and will therefore continue to have influence over the work we do at Manchester Digital.
“Manchester Digital has evolved hugely, and we are now considered an organisation championing not just digital agencies, but businesses with broader digital and technology agendas alike. Whilst we have achieved so much in the past few years, there’s still a lot to be done and we’re looking forward to welcoming a new Chair on board in the next few weeks.”
The election hustings will be held at on 9 July, and the final Council will be announced just before Manchester Digital’s annual summer barbecue on 16 July.
