Company wins extra care contract

A care company is to create new jobs after winning a contract to look after older people living in a new £6.75 million extra care scheme opening soon in an East Yorkshire market town.

Caremark (East Riding) has been appointed by East Riding of Yorkshire Council to deliver care and support to residents who will be living in the 40-home purpose-built scheme on Burden Road, Beverley.

The company is now seeking to recruit new members of staff from the Beverley area to provide the care when the scheme, known as Rita Hunt Court, opens in summer 2015.

Graham Precious, Managing Director of Caremark (East Riding), said: “We are delighted to have won this new contract to provide 24-hour care for people living in Rita Hunt Court.

“This will range from something simple as making someone a meal or assisting them to access the community, through to helping with more complex issues such as personal care, hoisting and assistance with medication.

“We have seen tremendous growth over the last few months, culminating in the recent opening of our new, larger head office in Hessle, and this new contract is further evidence of that.”

Councillor Richard Harrap, East Riding of Yorkshire Council portfolio holder for adult and carer services, said: “I am delighted that the new extra care housing scheme is not only going to provide essential accommodation for vulnerable adults but is also creating employment opportunities for people in the East Riding.

“With an ageing population living in this region, this sort of supported affordable housing is crucial and will undoubtedly make a real difference to the lives of residents while reducing the pressure on carers and families.”

Rita Hunt Court will consist of 40 two-bedroom self-contained apartments available to rent from East Riding of Yorkshire Council. Offering varying levels of care and support to residents, Rita Hunt Court will ensure that older people are able to live independently in their own homes, safe in the knowledge that help and support are there when they need it.

Apartments include modern wet rooms, well-equipped kitchens and comfortable living/dining rooms. All have a small balcony or terrace and are built to high energy saving specification. Communal areas are also being provided.

Local people interested in working for Caremark (East Riding) at Rita Hunt Court can telephone 01482 579579 or email eastriding@caremark.co.uk.

People aged 60 and over who would be interested in living in Rita Hunt Court can call 01482 396301. Applicants must have assessed housing and care needs and a local connection to the East Riding of Yorkshire.
