NAWIC leads the way for World Environment Day

The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) led the way on World Environment Day Friday 5th June by holding an environmentally focussed event on sustainable water use. Over 40 north east businesses attended this CPD event which took place in Newcastle and included talks from 3 key organisations, The Environment Agency, Northumbrian Water and Valley Environmental Ltd. With the emphasis being on the sustainable management of water and the aim to also raise awareness of the projects currently underway across our region, this event was a huge success and one very appropriate for World Environment Day.

Sharon Lashley, Head of Sustainability for NAWIC and Director of Enviro UK Consultants Ltd said “it was great to see so many businesses attending this event especially on such a prestigious and important day for the Environment. We need to be more aware of conserving water as a valuable resource and this event was aimed at advising businesses of how they could do this and adopt more sustainable management of water across our region”

Siobhan McMahon, National Chair of NAWIC and Director of Emerald Architects Ltd said “We are delighted to have organised this event for regional businesses and to have had such high profile speakers. It’s important for NAWIC to be able to bring together companies from the construction and the wider business sector and share best practice”

World Environment Day was celebrated on Friday 5th June by many organisations throughout the region with a number of events taking place. The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), hosted the 7 Billion Dreams campaign as part of their World Environment Day theme and the NAWIC event also asked delegates to sign up to this campaign and register their pledge on the day.
