Bridge Street Pentecostal Church to Receive New Home

Bridge Street Church and Hammerson are pleased to confirm plans for a brand new 1,000-seat church that will see the popular Leeds city centre church relocate to a new site with double the space for its crucial community support centres.

Bridge Street Church has received funding from Hammerson and raised money from its congregation enabling it to be redeveloped and relocated to new premises situated just off Burmantofts and Rider Street. The new church will provide a space that is better suited to its congregation and the wider community. There will be greater space for parent and children clubs and a brand new café as well as youth facilities. Construction of the new church began January 2015 and is scheduled to be completed March 2016.

First established in 1910 as Mount Tabor Pentecostal Church, today Bridge Street Church plays a significant role in the city, providing support services with partner organisations from around the city centre, including food banks, children’s clubs, English language tuition and debt counselling.

Reverend Steve Reilly of Bridge Street Pentecostal Church, said: “We are very pleased to be able to look forward to our brand new church. With more than 40 nationalities represented at Bridge Street Church, our support services are making a real difference to people and the new site will enable us to expand these.

“Our Saturday Kidz Klub in particular provides much needed activities every week for 250 children from Leeds’ poorest communities. We look forward to working with Hammerson and the residents on our doorstep over the coming months as this long-awaited development takes fruition.”

James Hepburn, Development Manager at Hammerson, said: “Providing funding for the redevelopment of Bridge Street Pentecostal Church is an important part of our commitment to support Leeds’ local community as we deliver our Victoria Gate development.

“The Church provides services that are vital for so many people living in the area and we’re happy to be able to support this project and make a difference to such a strong Church with such a great legacy.”
