Housing Units Begins With a Bang for Kidscan

The North-West’s premier home furnishing centre, Housing Units, has raised a staggering £7,206 for children’s cancer research charity, Kidscan, since it began its fundraising efforts 2 months ago.

The Failsworth-based store selected Kidscan as its nominated charity of the year after being impressed with the local Salford charity’s pioneering research into finding effective, gentle treatments for childhood cancer sufferers.

Fundraising efforts began in April, when Merchandise and Marketing Director, Nick Fox, took part in the Manchester Marathon raising a gargantuan £6,420 – surpassing his £5,000 goal. Following this, various in-store and online competitions have resulted in a further £786 being raised for the charity.

Housing Units and Kidscan have drawn up an exciting 12-month plan of activities including golf days, competitions and various sponsored events led by the Housing Units staff.

Speaking on the promising start, Lowri Haf Turner, Director of Development at Kidscan, said: “We are bowled over by the incredible support that we have received from Housing Units in just two months.

“Raising £7,206 is an amazing achievement and the funds will play a vital role in helping us to develop effective yet gentle treatments for childhood cancer.

“We’ve worked with Housing Units to plan exciting fundraising activities for 2015 and can’t wait to watch them unfold.”

Nick Fox, Merchandise and Marketing Director at Housing Units, added: “We are delighted to have Kidscan as our nominated charity this year. They receive no statutory funding, so the money raised by the public and companies such as ours ensures they are able to carry out their vital research. We will continue to put 110 per cent into our future fundraising efforts, and thoroughly look forward to our ongoing partnership.”
