Young at Heart lands cash boost from developer

A community group for the over 50s has been gifted £1,000 to help improve the services it offers to its members.

Young at Heart in Bradley Stoke received the funding from Persimmon Homes Severn Valley; as part of the builder’s Community Champions initiative.

The group of 50 members meet weekly on a Thursday afternoon to chat, have a cup of tea and play games. More importantly, Young at Heart assists with mental stimulation, aids mobility and helps prevent loneliness and isolation.

Josie Hadden, a member of the group, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have support from Persimmon Homes. This donation will help us arrange a trip to the Brecon Beacons with a ride on the steam railway later this year. This is something the members couldn’t afford, so it will be of great benefit to them.”

Nicola Reed, sales and marketing director for Persimmon Homes Severn Valley said the Community Champions initiative was a way of supporting people across every city, town and village where the company works.

She said: “We are so pleased to hand over this donation to Young at Heart. It was clear just how important this group is to the local community and it seemed fitting we did what we could to support them.”

The Persimmon Community Champions initiative is a national programme where charities and groups can apply for funding up to the value of £1,000 to match money they have already raised themselves.

Nationwide the company will donate a total of £750,000.

Nicola said: “We’ve made it really simple to apply for funding, and we’re urging groups and charities to apply for next month’s donation by completing an online form at www.persimmonhomes.com/charity.”
