CIBSE role for Calibre Search director Simon Owen
Recruitment consultancy director Simon Owen has been elected the new Vice Chairman of The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) in the Yorkshire region.
Despite not being an engineer, Simon of Calibre Search in Leeds has been an active participant in CIBSE’s regional events for over eight years and was invited to join the committee in 2012.
An avid promoter of building services careers and a high profile industry networker, Simon was number 37 in Ecobuild’s Top 100 most useful and insightful Twitter accounts within the sustainable construction, design and built environment industry for 2015.
Current Chairman Mark Connor commented that Simon brings a different perspective as a non-engineer and has been instrumental in driving forward a diverse programme of events on a range of practical subjects including BIM, sustainability and best practice.
Speaking of his ambitions for CIBSE Yorkshire, Simon said: “I’m looking forward to continuing the work of the committee towards making our region a vibrant group that reflects the amazing work carried out by the professionals that make it up. An important part of our work will involve engaging with local schools and colleges to raise the profile of engineering as a career, and working in collaboration on a number of events and initiatives with other industry bodies to maximise knowledge sharing and networking opportunities.”
Simon will be Vice Chairman for the next year and then move in to the Chairman position for two years before stepping back to Vice Chairman in support of the incoming Chair.
Calibre Search managing director Mark Lyons said: “Simon is a real asset to our business and the region’s built environment community is richer for his participation in professional industry bodies such as CIBSE. We are absolutely delighted that his hard work has been recognised and wish him every success in his role at CIBSE Yorkshire.”
