Marketing Professionals Most Unlikely to Receive Training
A new survey has revealed how professionals working in the marketing sector are the least likely to receive training at work, despite believing constant development is essential to stay ahead of industry changes.
CV-Library, the UK’s leading job site, conducted the survey to establish how the country’s professionals feel about training and development opportunities available to them at work.
Over 2,300 people responded across all sectors, revealing those working in marketing felt the strongest sense of dissatisfaction. Key findings revealed:
- Over half (51.4%) of marketing professionals revealed they have no access to training, which is significantly more than the national average of 29.6%
- Whilst 1 in 4 UK workers are satisfied with training and development opportunities at work, this figure drops to less than 1 in 5 for marketers
- The majority (94.6%) of marketers feel that basic training is essential to keep up with new technology and advancements in the sector
- Despite this, 62.2% of employees admit that their employer doesn’t provide basic training, which is once again ahead of the national average of 43.4%
- When training is provided, 56.8% of marketing employees believe they aren’t given sufficient time to digest and implement new skills
In addition to this, 78.4% of marketing professionals felt undervalued by their employer due to the lack of training, showing a strong correlation between career development and job satisfaction. The results send a clear message to marketing businesses, suggesting that the implementation of a comprehensive training and development programme would not only increase staff morale and job satisfaction, but also staff loyalty and retention.
In an industry where staff turnover can be high, it’s also interesting to know that 90.5% of UK workers would be less likely to leave their current employer if they were offered training; this figure increases to 91.9% for marketing professionals.
