New houses in Essex in high demand

Sales of new houses in Essex have “exceeded all expectations”, a leading regional builder said today.

Persimmon Homes Essex, which has new developments right across the county, has described the housing market as “buoyant”, with dozens of properties being snapped up by house hunters each week.

One of the builder’s success stories is The Village development in Aveley, where a second phase of development is now underway less than two years after the first phase of 340 apartments and houses began.

Norman Sharpe, sales director at Persimmon Homes Essex, said: “The market is certainly buoyant in Essex at the moment. We are seeing strong sales right across the board – and all different house sizes and styles are performing well.

“The Village in Aveley is a perfect example of the success we are experiencing. We had anticipated the development as a whole taking seven years, but demand has been so high that we are now looking at being completely off site in just three years. It’s exceeded all expectations.

“The development has completely rejuvenated the area.

“We’ve also seen huge success at Quantum in Grays and at Neave Place in Romford.

“What we are seeing is that with house prices escalating in London, people are looking elsewhere – and Essex offers an excellent base for commuting.

“The challenge for us is to keep up with high demand, while maintaining the very highest standards.”

Norman said that the Government’s Help to Buy initiative had played its part in the upturn in the construction industry.

He said: “Help to Buy has provided the industry with a huge boost. It means that people without huge savings can get a helping hand onto the first rung of the property ladder.

“We’ve also got our Part Exchange and Home Change schemes to ease the headache for those with property to sell.”
