Developers’ plans for 500 new homes rejected after appeal

The government has rejected plans to build hundreds of homes on a site between North Ferriby and Melton after an appeal was filed by the developers.

St Modwen Properties appealed against East Riding Council’s ruling to reject the proposed build of 510 homes, or a smaller alternative of 390 homes, off Brickyard Lane, south of Melton.

However, as reported by ITV, the Department for Communities and Local Government have supported the council’s initial decision and rejected the appeal.

A spokesman for East Riding Council, said: “We welcome the decision by the Secretary of State to dismiss both appeals.

“It agrees with the conclusions that the site is a key employment site and that there is not a pressing need for further major housing sites to come forward in addition to those already planned for.

“The council is now looking forward to working with the landowners to deliver business development on this important employment site.”
