Racecourse Owners Support Local Charity
The owners of Newcastle Racecourse are donating £3,000 to benefit a North East based charity.
The Esh Charitable Trust received the donation from the Reuben Foundation at the Trust’s charity raceday, part of the Gosforth Park course’s Betfred Seaton Delaval Raceday on Thursday, June 25.
The Reuben Foundation was set up in 2002 by Arena Racing Company’s (“ARC”) owners David and Simon Reuben to provide focused charitable giving in the areas of education, health and the community.
Esh Group launched the Esh Charitable Trust in 2005 with the aim of providing support for: skills and training to young people and disadvantaged people; communities; and environmental work, including protection, education and awareness. Its aim is to help make better places for the benefit of all.
Between 2005 and 2014 Esh Group has given over £1.4 million to a wide range of organisations, many of them small, throughout the North of England and Scotland, via the Esh Charitable Trust. North East charities that have benefited from donations include Apna Ghar Minority Ethnic Women’s Centre, CHILD Deaf Youth Project, Hartlepool Gymnastic Club and myaware Durham Tees & Wear Support Group.
Since 2006 the Esh Charitable Trust has hosted six charity race days at Newcastle Racecourse to raise awareness of the Trust’s work. During this year’s event, which took place on the first day of the Northumberland Plate Festival, Chief Executive of Esh Group, Brian Manning, was presented with a cheque by Mike Elliott, Business Development Manager at Newcastle Racecourse on behalf of the Reuben Foundation.
Brian Manning said: “We’re really grateful for this donation from the Racecourse to the Esh Charitable Trust and will put it good use. We’ve held six race days since 2006; it’s a good way of helping to raise awareness of the Esh Charitable Trust and many of the businesses and organisations who work in partnership with us support the day. It’s another example of how at Esh Group we always try to create a win-win situation in everything we do.”
David Williamson, Executive Director of Newcastle Racecourse, said: “We are delighted the Reuben Foundation has supported the Esh Charitable Trust with a donation that will benefit important North East causes. I was honoured to be able to present the cheque on behalf of the Reuben Foundation at Esh Group’s annual charity raceday.
“The Reuben Foundation was set up in 2002 by brothers David and Simon Reuben and is committed to the betterment of society in the UK and around the globe through focused charitable giving in the areas of education, health and the community.”
