Tom Relives His Childhood At Work

Tom Ward of Richard Boothroyd & Associates, the Chartered Quantity Surveyors & Project Management company, relives his childhood each time he arrives for work at the former Rothwell Primary and Nursery School, where he is now involved in transforming the building into a stunning new homes development over 30 years after he attended the nursery school.

Richard Boothroyd & Associates has been appointed by Leeds based Advent Developments to project manage construction work at the £3 million new homes scheme on Rothwell’s Carlton Lane.

Once complete the development, known as Carlton Green, will offer a range of 14 unique two to five bedroom homes that are all sympathetically designed to maximise the Grade II listed building’s original character and features.

Tom still lives in the Rothwell area and is well-known locally where he plays cricket for Carlton. He says: “I grew up in Rothwell and have lived in the area my whole life. I can vividly remember attending Rothwell Primary and Nursery School in the early 1980’s and some of my earliest childhood memories span from my time there, so it will always be a special place and every time I arrive at the site great memories come flooding back.

“The building originally opened in 1879 so it holds lots of history for thousands of local people like me who went to school and nursery there and it’s fantastic to be involved in bringing it back to life. The entire development is designed to maximise the building’s character and features, and it’s being finished to an exceptional standard, so there’s no doubt it will make a fantastic place to live.”

Tim Reeve of Advent Developments adds: “We have an enviable reputation for transforming heritage buildings into exceptional residential schemes that stand out from the crowd. We always make the most of a building’s history and personality which are both vital components in any development like this. The fact that Tom is so familiar with the building is an additional asset to have and there’s no doubt his enthusiasm and local knowledge will be reflected throughout the development.”

Advent Developments has a strong reputation for transforming heritage buildings into high quality residential schemes. The company recently created 38 homes in York that included the conversion of a former Victorian school, which has just been named the region’s best residential development at the 2015 Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Pro Yorkshire Awards.

Advent is also due to start work on an £8 million new homes development, known as Greenhill Fold, that will see a former school in Upper Wortley transformed into a village development consisting of 49 high quality homes.

The homes at Carlton Green will be released for sale in autumn, and work is due to complete by the end of the year.
