Industry workshops to unlock Graphene’s true potential
Greater Manchester’s Business Growth Hub provided over 200 delegates with a series of industry led workshops aimed at helping to bridge the graphene knowledge gap.
Held in collaboration with the National Graphene Institute (NGI), the workshops were designed to help academics and industry leaders get to grips with Manchester’s ‘wonder material’.
The workshops ran throughout Graphene Week (22nd June – 26th June) and provided the businesses with industry led knowledge on how to engage and develop an increased awareness of the world’s thinnest material.
Working with the University of Manchester, speakers included James Baker, business director of the National Graphene Institute, Professor Ian Kinloch as well as Richard Jeffery, director of the Business Growth Hub.
In addition to the workshops, the week featured over 650 academics arriving at University Place on Oxford Road and provided the opportunity for SMEs to understand the benefits of using the material to make everyday items.
Richard Jeffery, director of Business Growth Hub, said: “Manchester is the home of the graphene revolution, and we’re proud to be at the heart of its development as the European City of Science. Many new and exciting businesses have the potential to grow from graphene and these workshops are making sure we seize that opportunity.”
Charlie Rea, who specialises in manufacturing innovation at the Business Growth Service, added: “These workshops have provided a large number of people with a much clearer understanding of how graphene can be used to transform the way in which everyday items are made. Graphene has the potential to drive the next manufacturing revolution and we’re delighted to be playing a big part in this.”
