Contractors named for major New Addington scheme
A new design and technical team has been appointed for two major new schemes in New Addingto, Croydon, that will bring much needed improvements and regeneration to the area.
Peter Brett Associates, PRP and Holder Mathias have been awarded the contract for designing the redevelopment of Central Parade and a residential scheme at Fishers Farm.
Proposals for Central Parade include a new leisure centre, new community centre, town and village green, more public space and new homes. There is also the option for a health and wellbeing centre, along with a small supermarket.
Fishers Farm will deliver a high quality housing scheme for the whole site once a suitable alternative location is found for the existing refuse and recycling centre.
Design options will be presented to the public in autumn, and planning applications for both schemes are expected to be submitted in December.
The three appointees for the contract have a wealth of experience designing housing and leisure schemes across the country.
PRP is an consultancy whose previous work includes housing schemes across London, while Holder Mathias architects have designed leisure centres in Milton Keynes, at Center Parcs, Woburn and for the University of Glamorgan.
Peter Brett Associates’ wide range of projects includes the Old Palace of John Whitgift School in central Croydon and Lewisham Gateway.
“New Addington is an important part of our borough and improving it through regeneration is a major priority for this council.
“Central Parade is a busy and important public place, but its facilities are in need of updating and replacing.
“New Addington deserves the very best in public facilities and this scheme will make a huge difference to both residents and businesses.”
Councillor Alison Butler, deputy leader and cabinet member for homes, regeneration and planning
Councillor Louisa Woodley, ward councillor for New Addington, said: “We are delighted that the people of New Addington can look forward to this exciting new development that will transform Central Parade into one of the most thriving and vibrant district centres in the borough.”
