J & B Recycling reaches international standards

AN AWARD-WINNING recycling firm has surpassed international standards for its quality and environmental management systems.

J&B Recycling was re-accredited for the ISO-9001 Quality Management and ISO-14001 Environmental Management standards during a recent audit.

The Hartlepool-based business has held both accreditations since 2008 and is now working towards the ISO-18001 in Occupational Health and Safety Management.

Ashleigh Sweeney, Quality and Environment Manager at J&B Recycling, said: “It’s fantastic that we have been re-accredited as it recognises that we are continuously looking for ways to improve and make our systems more efficient.

“Achieving ISO accreditation is not a simple process but it helps a business to improve its performance at every level. As a recycling firm, our commitment to the environment is paramount so it is essential that we can prove we meet international standards.”

J&B Recycling handles approximately 120,000 tonnes of waste each year from household, commercial, industrial and construction sources with customers including car parts manufacturer Nifco UK, Camerons Brewery and dozens of community buildings, pubs and restaurants.

To secure its ISO re-accreditations, the business had to prove it was continuously monitoring and improving systems from simple office processes to handling complaints; improving the timeliness and efficiency of waste collections; and ensuring all of its legal requirements were up to date.

The ISO accreditation scheme is recognised across the globe and delivers many benefits including opportunities to win new business, improve efficiency and reduce costs, improve staff morale and establish professionalism and credibility within dozens of industry sectors.

Ashleigh added: “As a business, ISO accreditation will strengthen J&B Recycling’s commercial position whilst highlighting our ability to provide waste management services to the highest possible standards.”
