Mulbury donation helps scouts’ camping bid
A scouts group in Cumbria has received a £500 donation from Mulbury Homes to support a project to revitalise a vacant piece of land and turn it into a camping facility.
1st Wigton Scouts, which has around 80 children aged 5-17 in its beavers, cubs and scouts groups, acquired the land on the western edge of Wigton last year.
The group has been raising thousands of pounds to have the site fenced off and cleared of rubbish and excess undergrowth so that it can be used for activities and camping.
Mulbury Homes, which is building an ‘extra care’ housing development in Wigton on behalf of Home Group, has made the donation as part of its Mulbury in the Community initiative.
Claire Morris, head of care at Mulbury Homes, said: “We look to help a local good cause as part of every development we do and when we heard Wigton Scouts desperately needed cash to help them with this project we were only too happy to lend our support.”
Julie Bryceson, head of 1st Wigton Scouts, added: “This project will provide a really great camping facility for the children. Fencing the area off to make it safe and secure has required significant investment, so every penny helps. We’re incredibly thankful to Mulbury Homes for its support.”
The extra care development being built by Mulbury is almost complete and will comprise 33 apartments for residents over 55 and adults with disabilities or sensory impairments. The nine remaining homes will be for adults with learning disabilities.
The homes will provide an adaptable environment through the use of flexible design and telecare so care can be delivered when and where it’s needed.
The new development has been designed by Lymm-based Eden Building Design.
